Moya Design Partners and MRP Realty started the construction of this 112-units, 100% affordable project in April 2021. The project will bring affordable units to a rapidly shifting neighborhood near the Anacostia Metro Station, contributing to the District’s goals of affordable housing and equitable opportunities. The project will be built in a vacant land owned by the Bethlehem Baptist Church on Martin Luther King Jr Avenue. It is the culmination of six years of work with the church to provide excellent and affordable housing.
MOYA’s design team imagined an elegant design that combines textures and materials that contribute to the evolving nature of this section of the historic Anacostia. Lean tall windows provide natural light along the main façade on MLK Jr Avenue, while the solid frame of the ground floor suggests durability and is a reminiscence of the neighborhood history of resilience and hard-work. The ground floor retail space will provide economic opportunities and contribute to revitalize MLK Jr Avenue. The proximity to the Anacostia Metro Station, makes the building an ideal hub for people of all ages.
