Anticipated Completion – Fall 2022
245,000 SF (base building)
Moya Design Partners and Perkins Eastman DC are partnering on the architecture and interior design for the new headquarters of Washington DC’s Department of General Services (DGS). This project is part of Mayor Muriel’s Bowser leasing strategy to bring growth to different communities in the District. Once finished, DGS will relocate to Ward 7, bringing a workforce of nearly 700 employees East of the River and bringing the government closer to the people.
The goal is for the new DGS HQ to have a holistic design that recognizes community aspirations, sustainability needs, and financial responsibilities. There is also a desire for the building to be a beacon of change while also reflecting the unique qualities of the Ward 7 community. The building’s massing uses simple geometric moves that speak to heritage, rigor, strength, and permanence. These shapes are contrasted by soft lines of nature that speak to the greenest ward of the District and also spurs the perception of growth and intertwining of ideas and goals.
